GALESBURG — The Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team cut its deficit in half in the second half but couldn’t find the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to Lincoln Land on Wednesday afternoon at Kleine Field.

The Loggers (3-6-1) took a 2-0 lead into halftime before the Chargers (1-9-1) got on the board in the 59th minute. Luis Juarez (Willis, Texas/Willis) sent a free kick from the right corner into the box. The Lincoln Land keeper bobbled the ball, which was corralled by Sandburg’s Randy Mboyo (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg), who slammed it home to get the Chargers within a goal.

Sandburg was unable to pull even, however, as it dropped its sixth one-goal decision of the season.

Lincoln Land opened the scoring on Dimitrije Antonijevic’s penalty kick in the 20th minute. They made it 2-0 in the 27th minute as Franco Perez Clementi made a run down the right side off a pass from Sergio DaVentura.

Sandburg hit the woodwork twice in the first half. Javier Pavon (Tombull, Texas/Klein Oak) sent a hard shot off the crossbar in the 11th minute, and Benjamin Zambele (Beardstown, Ill./Beardstown) sent a shot square of the left post in the 32nd minute.

The Chargers will jump back into Region IV play when they travel to face Bryant & Stratton at noon Saturday.
