CSC Volleyball Goes 6-0 at Waubonsee Tourney to Run Win Streak to 9

The Carl Sandburg College volleyball team put together a perfect 6-0 record at the Waubonsee Tournament over the weekend and extended its win streak to nine matches. The Chargers are now 17-4 overall and haven’t lost since Sept. 1.

FRIDAY
Sandburg def. Moraine Valley 25-21, 25-17, 22-25, 26-24
Led by a season-best 53 assists from Cora Vyhnanek (West Prairie), the Chargers withstood a comeback attempt by the Cyclones before closing out a tight fourth set to open the tournament with a victory. Four Chargers finished in double figures in kills.

Sandburg, led by eight blocks and nine kills from Bowman, dominated the Scots in a rematch of last year’s Region IV tournament championship. The Chargers had just nine attack errors while hitting .292. The Scots, meanwhile had nearly as many errors (24) as kills (26) and hit only .020 for the match.

The Chargers emerged victorious in a battle of teams that came in riding seven-match winning streaks. Defense was the difference, as Sandburg had 58 digs to just 28 for the host Chiefs. Waubonsee also had 13 service errors while the Chargers had only five.
