Local High School and Junior High Sports Report for Sept. 13, 2018

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team hosted Macomb for their new Pattee Field dedication night in Monmouth. The Titans christen their new field with a 2-1 win over the Bombers. Robert Lian had the only non own-goal in the match. Monmouth-Roseville travels to Princeton on Saturday.

Volleyball

The United Red Storm opened up Lincoln Trail Conference play last night at home at the Fieldhouse at United High School. The Red Storm get an exciting 33-31, 25-17 win over the Annawan Bravettes to improve to (7-4) on the season and (1-0) in LTC play. Carly Thompson hammered ten kills, Jerzi Johnson had three block and Jenna Bentz had 11 digs. Bentz and Riley Tyrrell each handed out nine assists, all for the Red Storm.

In other LTC action, it was West Central over Ridgewood in three sets in Woodhull. The Heat were led by Corinne Booton with 11 kills, Jessica Smith dished out 19 assists and Mady Reed had 13 digs. For Ridgewood, Kendall Lewis totaled ten kills, Alli Lambin accrued 13 assists and Jenna Stromquist led in digs, with six.
Also Williamasfield lost to Stark County at home in three sets. Lexi Little led Williamsfield with 11 kills. Her teammates, Gionna Ott and Aubrey Bronaugh led in assists and digs with 20 and 17 respectively.

Finally, it was Princeville over Galva and Wethersfield defeated Mercer County. Both matches were in straight sets.

Golf

The United Red Storm girls golf team lost a dual match to Galesburg 210-223 at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. United’s Erin Glisan and Alex King led United with a pair of 54’s. Also scoring for United was Paige McKeown and Emily Grodjesk. Galesburg’s Kirsten Osborn was the meet medalist with a 40. She was joined in the scoring quartet by Halle Majdich’s 55, Kelsi Kleine’s 57 and Kaylee Allen’s 58.

The Galesburg High School boys golf team dropped both ends of a triangular match with Geneseo and Alleman at Bunker Links yesterday. The host Silver Streaks shot a team total of 168 and were led by Justin Endthoff’s 38, Lucas Watson’s 39, Luke Bradburn’s 45 and Grant Foster’s 46. Alleman shot a 152 and Geneseo shot a team score of 162.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls golf team finished 3rd in a triangular meet at Oak Run Golf Course. The Bullets scored a team total of 259. Sherrard topped the meet with a 223 and Orion shot a 250. Kaci Luptak shot a 50 and Kyli Luptak scored a 57 to lead Knoxville.

Junior High

The Junior High girls basketball is underway. The United Red Storm 7th and 8th grade both evened their record at (1-1) on the season with a sweep of Kewanee Visitation. The 7th grade Storm won 16-11 and were led in scoring by Emma Robinson with eight points. The United 8th grade won 17-8 and were led by Kaylyn Hager with four points.
