Local High School and Junior High Sports Report for Sept. 14, 2018

Golf

The United Red Storm boys and girls golf teams got wins last night at Oak Run Golf Course in Dahinda. The Red Storm girls shot a team score of 210 to best Mid County’s 225, Knoxville High School’s 229, Farmington’s 233. The meet medalist was Mid County’s Elizabeth Whitford’s 48. Leading United was Paige McKeown with a 50. Emily Grodjesk shot a 51 for the Red Storm as well. The lowest scoring Knoxville golfer was Kaci Luptak’s 51. The United boys golf team beat Knoxville 194-204 and were led by meet medalist Caleb Copeland’s 46. Dhylan Hepner and Ian McVey chipped in with 49’s. Jacob and Justin Betz carded 50’s for Knoxville.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls golf team traveled to Indian Bluff Golf Course in Milan for a triangular meet with Rock Island and Alleman. Rock Island had the lowest scoring quartet with a 201, Galesburg shot a team score of 206 and Alleman had a 226. Galesburg’s Kirsten Osborn tied for meet medalist with a 39. Halle Majdich shot a 52 as well for the Silver Streaks.

Volleyball

The Knoxville Blue Bullets and A-Town Tornado volleyball teams got home victories last night. The Blue Bullets defeated South Fulton 25-16, 25-16 in a Prairieland Conference cross-division contest. Alis Bickell had eight kills and seven digs. Makayla Benseon accrued 16 assists and Lauren Kavanaugh ahd 13 digs for Knoxville.

It was A-Town over Rushville/Industry in three sets, 20-25, 25-18, 25-21 and Farmington defeated BPC 25-22, 25-19.

Tennis

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls tennis team was shutout by Washington 9-0 at home at Art Fish Courts.

Jr. High

In Junior High girls basketball, ICS is hosting a 7th grade tournament that started last night and will finish up tomorrow. Mercer County defeated United 37-3. Taylor Anderson had all three points for United. Churchill beat the host Trojans in the second game 35-24. Camryn Huston and Brianna Woodard led ICS in scoring, with Kiarra Kilgore led Churchill with 19 points.

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Jr. High girls opened their season against West Central. The 7th grade Titans were beaten by the Heat 31-24. Top scorers for the Titans were Gracie Oma with 10 points and Meya Hunter with 6 points each. The Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade beat the Heat 21-10. The leading scorer for the Titans was Addie Switzer wth 8 points.

The Galesburg Junior High 8th grade football team beat Alleman 35-14 at home at Lombard Jr. High in Galesburg. Jon Sibley scored a pair of touchdowns for Galesburg. Also getting in the endzone for Galesburg was Emilio Torres, Mikey Eiker and Cam Aguirre.
