Local High School and Junior High Sports Report for Sept. 21, 2018

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan varsity volleyball team finally got their West Central Conference North Division schedule started. The Monmouth-Roseville Titans traveled to Hamilton to take on the West Hancock Titans. Monmouth-Roseville wins the match in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17. Camryn Jones led Mon-Rose in digs with eight, service points with ten and aces with two. Carly Gillen had eleven kills and five blocks, while Mackenzie Connell dished out nine assists.
Lots of matches going on last night in the Prairieland Conference. West Prairie outlasted A-Town in three sets, 20-25, 25-14, 25-13 on the Cyclones home floor in Sciota. This was a cross-division matchup.

The Knoxville Blue Bullets beat Havana 25-16, 25-18 in Havana in another Prairieland cross-division match to improve their season record to (10-4). Alis Bickell led Knoxville with five kills and ten digs. Lauren Kavanagh smashed four kills and totaled 10 digs and Makayla Benson gave out seven assists.

Also it was Farmington over South Fulton 25-20, 23-25, 25-18.

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville varsity boys soccer team earned its fourth straight victory, a 3-0 triumph Thursday afternoon at Alleman’s Mckenzie Field. Midway through the first-half, the Titans opened the scoring on a Sacre Kopesa goal. Three minutes later, Oscar Lopez-Sanchez gave Monmouth-Roseville a 2-0 lead at the half. The second half’s only goal was a penalty kick by Alan Ayala with just under 10 minutes to play. Now 8-5-1 on the season, the Titans return to action tomorrow for another Western Big 6 opponent, Rock Island. The match will start at 11:00 at Pattee Field in Monmouth.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys soccer team was also victorious. The Streaks got a 2-1 win over a solid Metamora squad. The Streaks got goals from Kyle Jackson and Chris Mboyo. Galesburg improves to (7-4) with the win.

Golf

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls went (1-1) in their triangular meet at Lake Bracken Country Club in Galesburg. The Streak’s team score of 223 was better than Pekin’s 230 but not quite as good as Morton’s 210. Galesburg’s Kirsten Osborn was the meet medalist with a round of 4-over par, 40.

The Knoxville Blue Bullet, Mid County and Farmington girls golf teams played a match at Oak Run Golf Course yesterday. The meet medalist was Mid County’s Elizabeth Whiford. She shot a 46 to 223 to lead her team to the victory over Farmington’s 228. Knoxville was one girls short of having an official team total. Kyli Luptak did lead Knoxville with a 47.

The Blue Bullet boys golf team was at Valley View Country Club in Cambridge for a triangular with Ridgewood and Williamsfield. The Bullets went (0-2) for the day, shooting a team total of 224. Ridgewood was tops with a 164 and Williamsfield had the second highest team score of 183. Ridgewood’s Gannon Greenman was the meet medalist with a 38. Williamsfield was led by Lorin Peterson’s 41 and Knoxville was topped by David Hise’s 51.

Tennis

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls tennis team beat Kewanee 3-2 on the road in Kewanee last night. Getting victories for Galesburg was Jolinda Mangieri in singles and Gwendolyn Allison and Reagan Mudd and Cameryn Anderson and Amanda Castellano teamed up to get wins in doubles competition.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade Lady Titans was on the road to take on the A-Town Tornadoes Thursday night. The Titans came home with a 38-2 win. Leading scorers for the Titans were Meredith Gonzalez with 8 points and Gracie Oma with 7 points. The Monmouth-Roseville 8th graders fell short in the second game, 33-27. Scoring for the Titans was Ailexa Hunter with 7 pts and Chevelle Wolf with 6.

Power Outage Reported as Equipment Damage

At 4:30 a.m. (April 9) Ameren was alerted to an outage impacting approximately 2,000 customers in the Monmouth area. Crews were dispatched and found a piece of equipment had malfunctioned inside
