Golf

The Lincoln Trail Conference held its Rail Splitter championship meet yesterday at Arrowhead Country Club in Chillicothe. The United Red Storm girls came home with a 2nd place plaque after shooting a 453 team score. That was 32 shots behind the conference champion Mercer County Golden Eagles. Two Red Storm golfers placed in the top-10 earning all-conference status. Alex King placed 7th with a 108 and Haley Marshall’s 111 put her in 10th. Also for the Red Storm, Paige McKeown had a 112 and Claire Carner shot a 122. Mid County’s Elizabeth Whitford is the individual champ, carding a 91. West Central was led by Emma Keever’s 133 and Mikayla Lange had a 149 for the Heat as well.
On the boy’s side, Ridgewood is your team champ, shooting a 351. Williamsfield was 2nd with a 371. The United Red Storm boys shot a 431 for 5th. Ridgewood was led by individual champ, Thomas Bumann’s 79. United had no golfer in the top-10 but were led by Caleb Copeland’s 98, with Drew Brown carding a 101. They were joined in the scoring quartet by Dhylan Hepner’s 110 and William Ornduff’s 122.

Gibson Woods in Monmouth was the place for the West Central Conference championships yesterday. The Monmouth-Roseville Titans placed 4th, shooting a 358. That was 53 strokes behind the eventual conference champ, Quincy Notre Dame’s team score of 305. Macomb was second with a 312. Monmouth-Roseville was led by Reece Kane’s 82 and Nick Corman and Aaron Blindt each shot 85’s.

Volleyball

Let’s start in the Lincoln Trail Conference with the United Red Storm and West Central Heat. Both teams got straight set victories in league play. The United Red Storm traveled to Oneida to take on the ROWVA Tigers. The Red Storm came home with a 25-21, 25-13 win to remain unbeaten in the Lincoln Trail Conference at (4-0) and go to (10-4) overall. United got seven kills from Josie Bentz and seven digs and eight assists from Jenna Bentz. ROWVA was led by Kelsey Lindquist and Taryn Henry’s three kills and Sarah Henenfent’s nine digs and six assists.

The West Central Heat remained a half game back in the league standings with a 25-15, 25-12 win at Galva. The Heat are (4-1) in the LTC and (10-5) overall. Corinne Booton had eight kills and nine digs. Lacey Bigger handed out 17 assists and Mady Reed served ten points.

In other Lincoln Trail Conference action, Annawan is (3-1) in the conference after getting a straight-set home victory over Stark County. Princeville keeps pace with West Central at (4-1) with a 25-23, 25-9 win over Mercer County and Ridgewood beat Williamsfield 25-21, 25-21.

The only Lincoln Trail Conference team that wasn’t playing a league match last night, Wethersfield, was at Monmouth-Roseville High School to play the Titans in the Shoebox. Wethersfield wins the non-conference match up 25-20, 25-18 to improve to (21-1) on the season. Monmouth-Roseville falls to (14-6) and were led by Carly Gillen’s 11 kills, Mackenzie Connell’s ten service points and Ryley Huston’s six blocks.

Cross Country

Postponed to last night was the Macomb High School cross country invitational at Spring Lake Park. The host Bombers won both sides of the boys and girls team titles. The Monmouth-Roseville girls placed 4th out of six scoring schools. Macomb’s Maya Stovall was the girls individual winner. Monmouth-Roseville’s top finisher was Dayanna Mora in 22nd. Her teammates Noel Sindani and Maggie Huston placed 25th and 26th respectively, with Grace Murk in 34th. United High School’s Natalie Gillette was the top Red Storm girls runner in 29th. Josie McElwee was 40th and Danielle Bowling crossed the finish line in 42nd for United as well. Turning to the boy’s race, again, Macomb was the team champ but West Hancock’s Miles Sheppard took the top individual spot. Monmouth-Roseville’s Carlos Serratos was a top-15 finisher, earning a 12th place. Joe Rivera was 31st for the Titans as well. Jacob Dutton was the lone United runner. He crossed the finish in 81st.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th and 8th grade football teams hosted the Knoxville Blue Bullets last night for a Prairieland Conference match up in Roseville. The game originally scheduled for Tuesday night but area thunderstorms postponed the contest to Wednesday. The Titan 7th grade Titans were beaten 28-14 by Knoxville. Jaylen Tutt found the endzone for both of Monmouth-Roseville’s touchdowns. The Titan 8th grade team salvaged a split on the night, shutting out Knoxville 30-0. Trevor Snyder scored all four of Monmouth-Roseville’s touchdowns.
