Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 25, 2018

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan volleyball team defeated Farmington in straight sets on the road last night. No details were available for the match.

There were five matches played in the Lincoln Trail Conference. The West Central Heat fell to Annawan 25-22, 25-22 at home in Biggsville. It was the Heat’s first loss in league play. They are now (3-1) in the LTC. Annawan improves to (2-1). Corinee Booton led West Central with seven kills and four blocks. Jessica Smith totaled ten assists for the Heat as well.

ROWVA beat Galva in Oneida in straights sets, 25-19, 26-24. Kelsey Lindquist led the Tigers with five kills. She also served six aces. Jaylen Haynes gave out five assists and Sarah Hennenfent made 11 digs for ROWVA.

Wethersfield is now one of only two unbeaten teams in the Lincoln Trail Conference. The Flying Geese are now (21-1) overall and (4-0) in the conference after their 25-10, 25-8 victory over Ridgewood. Jenna Stromquist had a pair of kills, while Ali Lambin handed out five assists for Ridgewood. Kendal Lewis made nine digs for the Spartans as well.

Princeville is (3-1) in the LTC. The Princesses beat Williamsfield 25-20, 25-15 and it was Mercer County beating Stark County 27-25, 25-16. United is (3-0) in the Lincoln Trail Conference but were off last night.

In the Prairieland Conference, Knoxville beat Brimfield 25-22, 25-22 for a North Division victory. The Blue Bullets are (14-5) overall and (2-0) in division play. Lauren Kavanaugh filled up the stat sheet for Knoxville. She smashed ten kills, made 12 digs and had three blocks. Makayla Benson dished out 15 assists and made 12 digs as well. Benson made six blocks also. Shelby Shreeves helped out with 14 assists. All of those for Knoxville.

In cross-division play, A-Town was beaten by Lewistown 25-11, 25-12. Payton Florine led A-Town with three kills. Courtney Moore had four blocks and Charli Johnson had 10 digs.

In non-conference play, North Fulton beat Delavan in three sets.

In West Central Conference North Division action, QND defeated Camp Point Central 25-20, 25-12.

Golf

Monmouth-Roseville went (2-0) against Ridgewood and Kewanee at Gibson Woods in Monmouth. The Titans shot a 163 team total as they get ready for the West Central Conference championships at Gibson Woods tomorrow. Reece Kane led Monmouth-Roseville with a meet medalist score of 34. Aaron Blindt carded a 38, Nick Corman shot a 45 and Blake Cunningham had a 46. Thomas Bumann led Ridgewood with a 35.

The United Red Storm boys golf team got a dual match win against Stark County at the Rebel’s home course of Lake Calhoun. The Red Storm were led by Dhylan Hepner’s 51, while Drew Brown and William Ornduff both shot a 52. Andrew Fuller provided the fourth score of a 54.

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys were narrowly beaten by their old postseason nemesis, Peoria Christian, 2-1 in Peoria yesterday. Alan Ayala tied the game up at 1-all at the half with a penalty kick goal before PC scored the eventual winning goal two minutes into the second half.

Tennis

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls tennis team was shutout by Macomb 9-0 last night in Macomb.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th grade girls basketball team lost a close game to ROWVA 34-28. Leading scorers for the Titans were Elise Blaesing and Lindsey Hull with 6 points each. The Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade Lady Titans beat ROWVA 34 to 12. Scoring for the Titans were Lexi Finnicum and Chevelle Wolf each with 8 points and Addie Switzer chipped in with 6 pts.
