Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 28, 2018



The Galesburg Silver Streak varsity volleyball team hosted the United Township Panthers in a Western Big Six Conference match at John Thiel Gym on the Galesburg High School campus. The Streaks get a 25-13, 25-8 win over the Panthers to improve their conference record to (2-3). They are now (10-11) overall. Kylie Fike and Chloe McCarthy tied for the team lead in kills with nine each. Fike also had three blocks on the night. Maddie Carlson handed out 13 assists. Sam Rogers led the Streaks in digs with five. The Galesburg sophomores and freshman split on the night, with the Silver Streak sophomores winning in three sets and the freshman falling in two. Kacie Erwin and Lauren Livingston led the Galesburg sophomores with seven kills each. Livingston also had ten digs as well. Lily Hudgins handed out 28 assists in the match for Galesburg.

Moline beat Rock Island in straight sets also in Western Big Six play and are still undefeated in league play at (7-0). Quincy was off last night and sit in 2nd place at (4-1).

In Prairieland Conference South Division play, West Prairie beat BPC 25-7, 25-13 and in non-conference action, it was Macomb over Southeastern 25-22, 25-17.


The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team welcomed Galesburg to their new Pattee Field in Monmouth. The Titans fall to the Silver Streaks 2-1 in a well-played game by both sides. Monmouth-Roseville got a goal from Robert Lian late in the first half and it looked like the Titans might make the lone goal stand. Galesburg had other thoughts and with just under 14 minutes left in the match, Wyatt Mayor scored to tie things up at 1-all. Four minutes later, Randy Bile scored to give the Silver Streaks the eventual winning goal.


The Galesburg Silver Streak boys golf team beat both Williamsfield and Knoxville in a triangular match at Oak Run Golf Course. The Streaks shot a team total of 162, followed by Williamsfield’s 176 and Knoxville’s 198. Galesburg’s Justin Endthoff and Luacs Watson beat everybody’s score with rounds of 36 and 37 respectively. Justin Betz led Knoxville with a 47 and David Hise helped the Blue Bullets with a 48.

The United Red Storm girls golf team set a new school record in their triangular match with Farmington and Elmwood last night, shooting a team score of 188. United’s Paige McKeown was the meet medalist, carding a 44. Emilly Grodjesk shot a 45 and Erin Glisan had a 9-hole score of 49. The Red Storm boys lost to Elmwood 180-196. Dyhlan Hepner carded a 42 to lead the Red Storm, while Drew Brown chipped in with a 44, both for United.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High girls 7th and 8th grade basketball teams traveled to Bushnell last night for a pair of contests against Bushnell-Prairie City. The 7th grade Titans handled the Spartans 31-10. Gracie Oma led Monmouth-Roseville with 7 points and Ashya (Uh-Shy-uh?) Bates chipped in with six points for the Titans. The Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade beat BPC 26-19 in the nightcap to earn a Titan sweep on the night. Chevelle Wolf was Monmouth-Roseville’s leading scorer with eight points. Yoselim (Yoe-suh-leem?) Hernandez had six points as well for the Titans, who improved to (3-2) on the season.

ICS also got a sweep over West Central in Monmouth. The Trojans win the 7th grade game 35-23 on the strength of 21 points from Brianna Woodard. Shelby Bowman had 19 points for West Central in the loss. The ICS 8th grade got a 35-21 win. They were led in scoring by Malia Killey with 13 points.
