The Local High School and Junior High Sports Report for Sept. 19, 2018

Volleyball

The Galesburg Silver Streak volleyball team dropped to (1-3) in the Western Big Six Conference following their 25-13, 25-22 loss to the Moline Maroons at Moline High School last night. The Streaks were led at the net by Kylie Fike’s five kills and two blocks. Brynn Atwell had double-digit digs with ten and she also led in assists with six. Galesburg is (6-9) overall, while the Maroons remain undefeated in Big Six play at (5-0).

In the Prairieland Conference, the A-Town Tornadoes got a 25-16, 25-19 win over Bushnell-Prairie City. This was a cross-division matchup in Abingdon. Payton Florine filled up the stat sheet for the Tornadoes, garnering seven kills, five digs and ten service points. Tori Adolphson led A-Town in assists with ten and Charli Johnson and Courtney Moore tied for the team lead in digs with five. BPC got two kills from Madison Allen and seven digs from Lily Powell.

In other Prairieland Conference action, it was West Prairie beating Elmwood in three sets…..North Fulton lost to Havana in three sets as well. Lewistown defeated Rushville/Industry in straight sets.

In non-conference volleyball play, Knoxville lost to Illini West 17-25, 25-18, 25-20 and Farmington beat Midwest Central 25-23, 25-22.

Soccer

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys soccer team fell 1-0 in a physical matchup with Moline at Van Dyke Field on the Galesburg High School campus. After a scoreless first half, the only goal in the match was scored by Moline in the 53rd minute.

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg High School swimming and diving team hosted Pekin at Mustain Pool yesterday. In a meet that came down to the final race of the night, the Dragons edged the Silver Streaks 93-92. Getting wins for Galesburg was Lauren Pio in the 200 yard freestyle race. She also touched the wall first in the 100 yard breaststroke. Haylee Cox got a win in the 30 yard freestyle, as did Hailey Glasnovich in the 100 yard backstroke. Galesburg’s 200 yard freestyle and 200 yard medley relay teams were victorious as well.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans traveled to Macomb for a pair of games. The 7th grade Titans defeated the Bombers 28-21. Top scorers for the Titans were Gracie Oma with 10 points and Cori Izquierdo and Meredith Gonzalez with 6 points each. Monmouth-Roseville’s 8th grade team fell to Macomb 27-16. Leading the scoring for the Titans was Lexi Finnicum, Yoselim Hernandez, and Nyota Feza each with 4 pts.

The ICS Trojan 7th grade girls basketball team beat Bushnell-Prairie City 32-10. Brianna Woodard led the way in scoring with 11 points for ICS. The Trojans swept the night as the 8th grade beat the Spartans 20-9. Malia Killey had seven points for ICS.

The Galesburg Junior High 7th grade football team beat Rock Island Edison 30-6 at Lombard Jr. High’s football field. Getting into the endzone for Galesburg was Ian Dominique, Amarie Richardson, Plamedi Nseka and Luke Nelson.
