Local High School and Junior High Sports Report for Oct. 17th, 2018

Cross Country

The West Central Conference held its conference championship meet at Spring Lake Park in Macomb. The Macomb High School boys and girls claimed the team titles. Monmouth-Roseville did not have enough boys to compete for the team championship. The Monmouth-Roseville girls squad placed 4th. Macomb’s Mya Stovall was 2nd individually on the girls side, with Olivia Bishop placing 5th. Monmouth-Roseville was led by Dayanna Mora finishing 12th to get herself on the All-Conference team. Maggie Huston was 17th and Reece Putnam was 18th. Macomb’s Stan Melkumian was 3rd and his teammate Dakota Shepler was 4th. Monmouth-Roseville’s Carlos Serratos was 6th to place him on the boy’s All-Conference squad. Joe Rivera crossed the finish line in 20th for Monmouth-Roseville as well.

Volleyball

Monmouth-Roseville beat Ridgewood 25-14, 25-20 at the Shoebox at Monmouth-Roseville High School.

The A-Town Tornadoes beat Peoria Heights 25-13, 26-24 in Prairieland Conference’s North Division. Payton Florine had 11 kills and 21 digs and Courtney Moore handed out 13 assists and served five aces. A-Town is now (10-19) overall and (1-4) in the North Division.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks swept Alleman in two sets, 25-22, 25-19 in Western Big Six Conference action. Kylie Fike had seven kills and two blocks. Brynn Atwell dished out seven assists. Kelsi Legge and Sam Rogers each had seven digs for the Silver Streaks, who are (14-16) overall and (3-5) in the Big Six. The two schools split the freshman and sophomore matches. The Galesburg sophomores were victorious 25-6, 25-13. Lauren Livingston had seven kills and seven digs to lead the Streaks in those categories. Lily Hudgins handed out 17 assists. Alleman won the freshman match 25-20, 25-14.

Mendon Unity beat Macomb in three sets in a non-conference match in Mendon. Avery Rexroat had a great night for Macomb with 33 assists, four kills and nine digs. Autumn Kindhart smashed 11 kills as well for the winning Bombers.

Soccer

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys’ season came to an end last night with a 2-0 loss to Geneseo in the LaSalle-Peru Class 2A regional semi-finals. Galesburg finishes the fall at (10-7-1).

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg High School girls swimming and diving team lost to Moline 109-61 last night at Moline High School. Hailey Glasnovich and Haylee Cox were each 2-time individual winners. Glasnovich touched the wall first in the 50 free and the 100 butterfly races. Cox was first in the 100 freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Those two combined with Lauren Pio and Sophie Lotz to win the 200 medley relay.

Junior High

The Churchill Junior High girls basketball teams swept Lombard last night in the annual cross-town classic at John Thiel Gym on the Galesburg High School campus. The Blue Streaks won the 7th grade game 40-8. Kiarra Kilgore led Churchill with 12 points. Churchill’s 7th grade team is (15-0) overall. The Blue Streak 8th grade won 36-28. Cayman Milroy had 17 points to lead Churchill, now (5-12) for the year.
