Local High School and Junior High Sports Report for Oct. 3rd, 2018

Golf

Our first postseason contests were played in high school sports yesterday as boys golf regionals were played. The Monmouth-Roseville Titans hosted a Class 2A regional at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. Alleman claimed the team championship with Alleman Pioneer senior Ryan Rochholz taking the individual title, shooting a 73. Also advancing as teams were Dunlap and Richwoods. The host Monmouth-Roseville Titans will send three individuals to the Lincoln Elks Golf Course in Lincoln, Illinois on Monday. Seniors Aaron Blindt and Nick Corman both shot 80’s and junior Reese Kane carded an 84 to be one of the top-10 scoring individuals not on an advancing team. The Titans placed 5th as a team, shooting a team score of 337. The Galesburg Silver Streaks placed 9th as a team, carding a team score of 358. They will send senior Lucas Watson to Lincoln. Watson shot a 79. Justin Endthoff also carded an 89 for the streaks.

The Orion Chargers hosted a Class 1A regional at Valley View Golf Course in Cambridge. The three teams that will advance to the Mercer County Sectionals on Monday at Hawthorne Ridge Golf Course in Aledo are the regional champ Rockridge Rockets, the Ridgewood Spartans and the Sherrard Tigers. The United Red Storm place 9th as a team with a 4-man score of 412 and Knoxville was 12th with a total of 436. The champ Rockets carded a 321. Jeremy Ott of Brimfield High School won a sudden-death playoff against Ridgewood’s Thomas Bumann to claim the individual regional championship with a 71. United will send sophomore Drew Brown to Aledo on Monday as Brown shot a 92 to garner the final individual transfer spot. Jacob Betz led Knoxville with a 102.

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys soccer team won their senior night match 4-1 against the Orion/Sherrard co-op at Pattee Field in Monmouth. Oscar Lopez-Sanchez scored three of the Titan goals for a hat trick. Robert Lian got the other score for Monmouth-Roseville, who improve to (10-8-1) on the season. They will head to Alleman next week for a Class 1A regional semi-final matchup with Kewanee on Wednesday.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys soccer team also got a nice victory over Alleman. The Streaks get two goals from Joel Bizau and a solo goal from Peter Ngoma to earn a 3-1 win over the Pioneers.

Volleyball

The Knoxville Blue Bullets get a Prairieland Conference cross-division 25-22, 25-20 win against West Prairie in Sciota. Makayla Benson smashed 11 kills and also handed out nine assists to lead the winners in that one. Lauren Kavanaugh also had 11 digs for the Blue Bullets.

The A-Town Tornadoes lost to Havana in a Prairieland North Division match up. The Ducks get a 25-17, 25-23 win over the Tornadoes. Payton Florine had four kills and 12 digs to lead A-Town in those stat categories. McKayla Sloan and Tori Adolphson each garnered five assists for A-Town as well. A-Town is (0-3) in the North and (5-11) overall.

BPC was beaten by Illini West 25-14, 25-20 in a home match in Bushnell. Hadley Powell led Bushnell-Prairie City with four kills. Madison Allen had six blocks, Melissa Allen made six digs and Deidre Lorton led in assists with two for the Spartans.

In a non-conference matchup in Oneida, Elmwood beat the host ROWVA Tigers 25-14, 25-13. Taylor Main led ROWVA with three kills. Kayla Dillbeck had three digs, Kelsey Lindquist made two blocks and Sarah Hennefent gave out two assists for the Tigers.

Tennis

The Galesburg High School girls tennis team was shut out by Moline 5-0 in the Quad Cities.

Swimming and Diving

The Galesburg girls swimming and diving team beat Metamora 98-85 at Mustain Pool on the Galesburg High School campus last night. Getting wins for Galesburg was Ari Bailey in the 1 meter diving competition and Haley Cox in the 100 yard backstroke. Getting two wins on the night for the Silver Streaks was Lauren Pio in the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and Hailey Glasnovich in the 200 IM and 100 yard butterfly. Two Galesburg relay teams were also victorious as well.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 7th and 8th grade football teams hosted the Sherrard Tigers for a pair of games in Roseville last night. The 7th graders got a 24-8 win in the evening’s first contest. Darion Smith scored first with a 30 yard touchdown run. Also scoring for Monmouth-Roseville was Jaylen Tutt on a 25 yard pass from quarterback Rhett Willett and then Tutt scored again on a 10 yard interception return. The Titan 8th grade team was not able to complete the sweep, falling to Sherrard in close one, 20-18. It took until the second half for Monmouth-Roseville to get on the board as Max Cole scored from 30 yards out and Silas Braun also got into the endzone from 34 yards away. In the 4th quarter, Jerome Jackson hit paydirt from 47 yards but Monmouth-Roseville loses the game 20-18.

The ICS Trojan Jr. High girls basketball teams welcomed Annawan to the ICS gymnasium in Monmouth last night. The Trojans won both games by double digits. The 7th grade beat Annawan 36-29 behind Brianna Woodard’s nine points and Rosie Flynn’s 8. The 8th grade completed the sweep with a 42-31 victory. Ava Parkins had 12 points to lead ICS. Mattie Gillen chipped in with 11.
