Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 11th, 2018

Volleyball

The A-Town Tornado varsity volleyball team lost to Elmwood 25-22, 25-17 at home in Abingdon. With the victory, Elmwood is now (18-7) overall and (5-0) in the Prairieland Conference’s North Division. They have clinched at least a share of the division title and can win it outright with a win over Farmington on Tuesday. A-Town is now (7-16) overall and (0-4) in the North. They were led by Payton Florine’s seven blocks and eight digs. Courtney Moore totaled seven assists.

In other high school volleyball last night, IVC beat Farmington 25-10, 25-22 and in another non-conference matchup, Orion defeated Brimfield 25-15, 25-19 to improve to (29-4) on the year. The Chargers have already clinched the Three Rivers Athletic Conference’s West Division championship.

There are a couple of important high school volleyball matches on the schedule for tonight. The United Red Storm host the Wethersfield Flying Geese at the Fieldhouse at United High School. Both teams are tied for first place at (7-0) in the Lincoln Trail Conference. Wethersfield is (25-1) overall. United comes in with a (21-6) record and on a roll after winning five straight matches on Saturday on their way to a United Invitational Tournament championship. The varsity match is scheduled to start at around 7:00.

Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans are on the road for their big matchup with Quincy Notre Dame. QND is (3-0) in the West Central Conference’s North Division and can clinch a division title with a victory over the Titans. Monmouth-Roseville is (2-0) and with a win over QND tonight and Camp Point Central at home next Thursday, they will claim the division title for the second straight year.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade Lady Titan basketball team lost their opening Prairieland Conference game to the Mercer County Golden Eagles 34-29. The leading the scorer for the Titans was Gracie Oma with 19 points. The 8th grade Lady Titans beat the Golden Eagles 29 -12. Leading scorers for the Titans were Addisyn Switzer with 11pts and Aliexia Hunter added 7pts.
