Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 2nd, 2018
Volleyball
The United Red Storm remained unbeaten in the Lincoln Trail Conference at (5-0) with a straight-set 25-21, 25-20 win over West Central. West Central falls to (4-2) in the LTC. United was led by Josie Bentz with eight kills and 12 digs. Jerzi Johnson added seven kills and four blocks. Ryley Tyrrell handed out 15 assists and Breanna Shea totaled 13 digs to lead in that stat category. For West Central, Corinne Booton smashed seven kills. Jessica Smith dished out nine assists, with Megan Schaley getting 23 digs.
Also staying unbeaten in the Lincoln Trail was Wethersfield, as the Geese get a 25-4, 25-14 win over ROWVA. Wethersfield is tied with United at (5-0) in the conference.
Annawan is a game back of the Geese and United at (4-1) after their three set victory over Mercer County.
Princeville is a game back in the loss column at (5-1). The Princesses defeated Ridgewood 25-21, 25-10. Finally, it was Stark County over Galva 25-20, 25-15.
In the Prairieland Conference North Division, the Knoxville Blue Bullets beat North Fulton on the road 25-19, 20-25, 25-18 to improve their division record to (4-1). They trail North Division leader Elmwood by a half game. The Lady Trojans are (4-0) in division play. Shelby Shreeves led the Blue Bullets in kills with nine. She also had eight assists and seven digs. Alis Bickell finished with 18 digs and Makayla Benson had 15 assists as well for Knoxville.
