Golf

IHSA Golf Sectionals were held around the state. The local tournaments were held on some very rain-soaked courses. One of those were the Class 2A sectional at Lincoln Elks in Lincoln. Quincy Notre Dame is the team champ, with Alleman and Dunlap advancing to the state finals this weekend in Normal, Illinois. Galesburg’s lone representative, Lucas Watson will go to the finals as an individual. Watson shot a 75. The top 10 finishing individuals not on an advancing team also get to move on to the next round. Monmouth-Roseville had three golfers compete yesterday but none shot low enough to advance. Senior Nick Corman was the low-Titan with an 89, good enough for 71st. Fellow senior Aaron Blindt carded a 91 for 85th. Junior Reese Kane also shot a 91 as well for Monmouth-Roseville. In the Class 1A sectional at Aledo’s Hawthorne Ridge, United High School’s Drew Brown was attempting to make his first state finals in Normal. Brown shot a 91 that placed him in a tie for 43rd. Ridgewood’s Thomas Bumann’s 85 put him just inside the top-10 advancing individuals. Rockridge was the team champ, with Sherrard and Tremont joining them this weekend.

On the girl’s side, the area’s closest Class 1A sectional tournament was held in Pontiac, Illinois at Pontiac Elks. The United Red Storm finished 9th as a team with a score of 437. Bloomington Central Catholic, Geneseo and Metamora are the teams that will head to Decatur this weekend for the state finals. The lowest Red Storm golfer was Paige McKeown’s 91. That placed her in 38th, just two shots from moving on to the finals. Also scoring for United was Erin Glisan with a 109, Emily Grodjesk with a 111 and Haley Marshall had a 116. In the Class 2A sectional at the University of Illinois Orange Course in Champaign, the Galesburg Silver Streak girls placed 12th as a squad with a 426. The Streak’s Kirsten Osborn won a 5-person playoff for the final advancing spot. She birdied the second playoff hole to move on. She shot an 86. She was joined in the scoring quartet yesterday by Kaylee Allen with a 110, Halle Majdich with a 113 and Kelsi Kleine with a 117.
