A Knoxville, Illinois man is dead following a single-vehicle crash in Warren County Wednesday afternoon.

Scott Monroe, 18, of Tremont was driving on Illinois 116 at 105th Street at 3:11 p.m.

Illinois State Police say Monroe was distracted from inside the vehicle while speeding.

That’s when he swerved and lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle left the road and overturned several times.

Police say a modified seat belt on passenger Christopher Sage failed to function properly.

He was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead on scene.
