McDonough County Sheriff Nick Petitgout reports the death of John S. Schauble, 73, of Macomb, IL. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family of John Schauble.

On November 26, 2018 at 2:45 p.m. Macomb Police received a missing person report from the family of John Schauble. John’s family reported that he travelled to Canton, IL on Sunday, November 25, 2018. John’s family stated that he had some health problems and suspected he was suffering from Dementia.

Macomb Police located Schauble’s vehicle at local auto body shop. The vehicle had been towed there by the business. Schauble’s cell phone, hat, coat, and gloves where located inside of the vehicle. The representative from the business then took the Macomb Police Detective to the site where he towed the vehicle from.

On November 27, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., the McDonough County Sheriff’s Office, Macomb Police Department, and Illinois State Police then responded to U.S. Highway 136, approximately ½ mile east of East 1800th. After an hour of searching the area, Detectives located John S. Schauble. He was found deceased. The McDonough County Coroner’s Office was notified and responded to the scene.

At this time the investigation indicates that Schauble died from exposure. The McDonough County Coroner’s Office will have more at a later date.
