Girls Basketball
The Lincoln Trail Conference girls basketball tournament continued last night with four more games from Princeville Junior and Sr. High Schools. The higher-seeded teams went down in three of the four contests. The only high-seed team to get a victory was the West Central Heat. The Heat defeated the United Red Storm 49-40. 5th seed Annawan beat tournament top-seed Princeville 47-42 in overtime. Over at the junior high gym, 6th-seeded Ridgewood defeated 3rd seed Wethersfield 49-28 and 2nd seed Stark County goes down to 7-seed Mercer County 39-34. Annawan and West Central lead Pool A with (2-0) records, while Mercer County and Stark County have (2-1) records to led Pool B. Tonight, Princeville play West Central in a pivotal match up. Stark County takes on Wethersfield, Galva plays Ridgewood and ROWVA battles Annawan. United has the night off.
The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls basketball team won their 24th game last night by beating BPC 54-33. Lauren Kavanagh scored 16 points and Breena Shreeves chipped in with 12 to lead the Blue Bullets. The Spartans were led by Madison Allen with seven points.
Boys Basketball
ROWVA/Williamsfield edged out Galva 53-52 in a makeup game.
Junior High
The United junior high 8th grade boys basketball team claimed the Lincoln Trail Conference championship last night with a 45-35 win over Williamsfield. Between last season and this season, this Red Storm group has won 21 straight games in LTC play, including back-to-back regular season and tournament championships.
In junior high volleyball, the 7th grade Monmouth-Roseville Lady Titans hosted the Mercer County Eagles at home for their first home conference game. The Titans were victorious winning all 3 sets with scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 15-6. Leading Monmouth-Roseville for the night was Elise Blaesing with 17 service points, 1 dig, and 4 assists. Natalie Boyd with 8 service points, 3 kills, and an assist. Kianna Johnson added 8 service points and 3 kills. The Titan 7th grade overall record is 3-1 and Prairieland conference record is 1-1. The 8th grade Lady Titans also won in three sets with the scores of 25-15, 17-25, 25-15. Stat leaders were Lily Johnson with 3 kills, and 4 serving points. Mariah Reading with 6 serving points, 5 aces and 1 assist. Rayonna Heinrich had 8 service aces. Lexi Finnicum had 7 kills and 4 serving points. Tonight’s game makes our overall record 3-1 and in conference 2-0.
