Monmouth College and the Warren County YMCA are collaborating for a day of service to honor Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday. Classes will not be held in the afternoon of January 21st to honor the late civil rights leader, allowing students to engage in service activities in the community. Regina Johnson, Director of Multicultural Students Services and First Generation Student Program at Monmouth College, has the details:
“At the Y, Candy and I came up with two service projects the groups will be split into: Fleece tie blankets and cards that will go to a variety of different places and locations that mean something to families or community members. The fleece tie blankets will go to Iowa City Children’s Center, Peoria Children’s Hospital and the Family Crisis Center in Galesburg. Also, the cards will go to the Monmouth Nursing Home, Legacy Estates, and Courtyard Estates,” Johnson said.
Activities at the YMCA are open for the entire public to attend.
