The Monmouth College swim team produced one program record, two lifetime-bests and three honor roll swims over two days at the Principia Sprint Invitational and the Panther Classic Friday and Saturday.
Swimming at the six-team Sprint Invite on Friday, Preston Bocchi broke his own school record in the 50-yard backstroke and bettered his personal-best in the 50 freestyle. The sophomore took first in the backstroke, clocking a school-record 25.07 to win by nearly seven-tenths. He logged his lifetime-best in the free with a 22.03, finishing second just 12-hundredths out of first.
Andrew Shie posted an honor roll time and Kyle Jones clocked a PR in the 100 individual medley. Shie was fourth in 56.59 and Jones fifth with a 1:01.26. Shie’s top Friday finish was a runner up swim in the 50 breaststroke where he clocked a 27.59.
Bocchi and Shie were joined by Jake Hall and Logan Hoepfner in the 100 freestyle relay where the quartet won in 40.66, a day before the foursome placed second in two relays at the Panther Invite with a Monmouth honor roll time of 1:40.43 in the 200 medley relay and a 3:18.29 in the 400 free relay.
The Scots’ other win on Friday came in the women’s pool where Miranda Pasky touched first in the 50 breaststroke with a 33.12, nearly a full second ahead of the runner up. Pasky had a productive Saturday in the women’s swims. The sophomore teamed with Cynthia Johnson, Rylee Mann and Maggie Wingo for a runner up finish in the 400 free relay, touching in 4:00.62. Pasky took another second in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:45.07. She was fourth after swimming a 1:14.11 in the 100 breaststroke.
It was a 2-3 Scots finish in the 200 free on Friday where Rik Doornenbal clocked a 1:51.79 and Tyler Davis touched in 1:52.80.
Doornenbal and Davis picked up Monmouth’s lone wins in Saturday’s Panther Invitational. Doornenbal led a 1-2 finish in the 1650, swimming a 17:55.68. Davis was right behind in second place with an 18:19.53. Davis won the 500 free, clocking a 5:07.93 just 14-hundredths ahead of the runner up.
Shie and Bocchi each picked up runner up finishes with Monmouth honor roll swims at Saturday’s competition. Shie posted a 1:00.45 in the 100 breast while Bocchi clocked a 1:57.70 in the 200 back. Bocchi was also the runner up in the 100 back where he swam a 55.01.
Monmouth now prepares for the season-ending Midwest Conference Championship meet at Grinnell, Iowa, on Feb. 15-17.
