Here’s the WMOI/WRAM/WAIK Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 6th, 2019:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys basketball player, Rylan Heinrich. Rylan’s 3-point shooting touch was on fire against the Macomb Bombers. He nailed seven shots from downtown in the first half alone. Rylan would end the game with 23 points in his team’s win over the Bombers. He was also in double figures with 11 points in a win over Maroa-Forsyth in his next outing.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Evan Wynne. Finally getting stronger following an early season injury, Evan broke out with 23 points against Erie/Prophetstown. Included in that point total was seven 3-pointers. He also had 15 points to tie for the team lead in a win against West Prairie.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior girls bowler, Danielle Rhinehart. Coming off a great season last year, Danielle has really come on as of late this season. She rolled a 6-game series of 1109 in the Abingdon-Avon Memorial Tournament at Abbe Lanes in Abingdon. Her total, which was good enough for 2nd place overall, included a single-game high of 224.

The A-Town Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys bowler, Zach McCune. Zach had a fantastic 3-game series at the Abingdon-Avon Memorial Tournament at Abbe Lanes in Abingdon. His total of 595 was second best on the Tornadoes. However, his single-game high of 246 was tops on the team for the day.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Andrea Sampson. Andrea has consistently been one of the leading scorers for the Silver Streaks all season but this week, she broke out with 18 points in a win over Quincy. Andrea then backed that up with 16 points in a win against Dunlap in the Galesburg Invitational championship game.

WIU Receives $500 Grant From Walmart

Western Illinois University was recently granted a $500 community grant from Macomb’s Walmart store, facilitating the expansion of occupational therapy and workforce development aids for the University’s sensory environments. This
