The Big and Loud program for Parkinson’s patients has been a part of Seminary Village and Bounceback in Galesburg for two years now. The program, which is an intensive 16 sessions in four weeks, has proven to be an essential part in gaining back daily functions. Katie Hull, Physical Therapist Assistant at Bounceback, shares how the program provides for Parkinson’s patients:
“This program itself is to prepare people to do these activities on their own. It is meant to be the balancing off point for them to be independent in their own daily program. Exercise is the prescription for motion when it comes to Parkinson’s. You have to be doing motion and you have to be thinking about making it bigger or you become so self-centralized. Your posture decreases, your ability to interact with people decreases, your voice gets softer. It’s just a way to retrain your body, retrain your brain to be able to function,” states Hull.
The program is covered by Medicare. If you or someone you know has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s and would benefit from the program, contact Seminary Village at 344-1300.
