Betty R. Alecock

Betty R. Alecock, age 95, formerly of the Rozetta Community, passed away
at Friendship Manor Silver Cross in Rock Island, Illinois on Tuesday,
May 7, 2019 at 12:20 am. Betty was born on August 17, 1923 in Monmouth,
Illinois and is the daughter of Charles and Rachel Kinkaid Zielke. She
was raised in the Fall Creek area of Rozetta Township where she attended
local rural schools. Betty married James C. Alecock on October 13, 1946
at the home of her parents. James preceded her in death on August 9,
1972. Betty was a homemaker and worked the family farm with her husband.
She was employed from 1975 to 1985 in the food service at Monmouth
College. She was a member of Fall Creek United Methodist Church for 66
years. She then transferred her membership to the Aledo United Methodist
Church on June 9, 1991. She currently is a member of Trinity United
Methodist Church in Milan, Illinois. Betty was gifted in baking, sewing,
crewel embroidery and crochet. She loved tending to her flower garden
wherever she lived. Betty was a master of jigsaw puzzles and shared this
love with her friend Mary at Friendship Manor. She was a member of
United Methodist Women and the Mercer County Senior Center while in
Aledo.  Betty’s greatest love was for her family. Betty is survived by
her daughter, Peggy (Patrick) Shovar of Andalusia, Illinois, three
grandchildren; Ryan (Amanda Chong) Shovar, Travis (Tracy) Shovar, and
Erin (Roger) Koehn, five great-grandchildren; Mallory and Makayla
Shovar, Olivia Shovar, and Malena and Jackson Koehn.  She is preceded in
her death by her parents, husband James, and three brothers; Dean
(Phyllis) Zielke, James (Martha) Zielke, and Raymond Zielke.

A funeral service is planned on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Turnbull Funeral
Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Family will be present to receive friends
from 9:30-11:00 am prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment
will be in Rozetta Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for
the Rozetta Cemetery Association. For more information, or to leave a
