Margaret Virginia Coombs, 87, of Galesburg died peacefully at 3 p.m. on Saturday April 27, 2019 at home surrounded by her family.

Margaret was born January 15, 1932 at home in rural Warren County, Illinois the daughter of Ross and Lucille Evelyn (nee, Ross) Rosenberry. Margaret loved growing up on the family farm and graduated from Abingdon High School. Margaret married the love of her life, Dale Coombs on August 8, 1953 in Abingdon. She loved her life as a stay at home wife and mother to their three children; Nancy (Steve) Spicher and Cindy (Denny) Napier both of Galesburg, and Alan (Debbie) Coombs of Chambersburg, PA. Margaret was a proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Jennifer Spicher, Rachael (Kris) Miller, Ashley (Kevin Proto) Coombs, Lauren Napier (Garrett Medina), Kelly (Kyle) Meyer, Alex (Colleen Hanson) Coombs, and Nicolas Napier; six great grandchildren, Madeleine, Elisha, and Ava Gladfelter, Kole, Kennedy, and Kegan Miller. She is also survived by two sisters-in law, Amelia and Betty Rosenberry both of Abingdon. Dale preceded Margaret in death on August 24, 1993. Margaret was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roger and Robert Rosenberry.

Margaret was active in 4-H for many years. She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church where she spent many years teaching and attending Sunday School. Margaret loved taking pictures of her family and was often referred to as “Mrs. Huddle.” Margaret never missed a birthday, anniversary, or special event with a card or letter. She also enjoyed working around her home, especially mowing the yard and tending to her garden. Margaret hopes to be remembered as a great wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday May 3, 2019 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory with funeral services following at 11 a.m. Pastors M.J. and Greg Fitch will officiate. Burial will follow in Abingdon Cemetery, Abingdon. A celebration of life/luncheon will follow burial at the Thomas Legacy Center at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to the family for her grandchildren’s education expenses. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent at www.watsonthomas.com.
