Mr. Michael Lee “June Bug” Steward, Jr. 56, of Columbia, South Carolina formerly of Galesburg, Illinois passed away at 2:40 am Friday, April 12, 2019 at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.
Mike was born August 2, 1962 in Conway, Arkansas the son of Michael Lee and Iva D. Stanley Steward, Sr. He married Theresa Steward.
Mike is survived by his father, Michael Lee (Mattie) Steward, Sr. of Galesburg; two brothers, Justin Roberson and Cory Mitchell both of Galesburg; two sisters, Yvette Stapleton of Galesburg and Kimberly (Rev. Darrell) Bagwell of Bloomington, sister in law, Kathryn Goethals of Illinois; a host of aunts, special nieces, Nicole, Shandi, Miriah, Sharnae (Percy), Taylor, Aumanie, and Aurora; special nephews, Craig, Jaron, Isaiah, Jordan, Jaxson, Ammeir, Trustin and T.J.; one great niece and two great nephews. Michael is also survived by childhood best friend, Carry D. Williams, Appollo (Jihan) Davis and Harry Brown. He is preceded in death by his mother and his brother, Ivan Craig Steward.
He graduated from Galesburg High school in 1980. Mike served in the US Air Force from 1980-1983. He served as chairman of the board for Disabled Veterans and was a spokesman for Wounded Warriors. Michael enjoyed fishing, cooking listening to jazz, and hanging out with his family and friends whom he loved dearly.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services. Rev. Toby Carlos is officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery with military honors. Memorials may be made to the family.
