NRCS Deadlines for May

Share

May 10 is the deadline to apply for the Conservation Stewardship Program according to National Resource Conservation Service District Conservationist Cathy Froelich. Those who are interested in the incentive-based program must sign a five year contract with the NRCS. Froelich tells us the benefits for signing up with the program:

“It’s an incentive program that is awarding you for everything you’re doing great now, and then what you want to do extra to get a little bit more money.”

Stewardships include land operation, resource concerns, cropland practices, livestock management, and wildlife management. Visit the NRCS district office for more information.

Froleich also said the deadline for farmers submitting equipment applications is May 30 and letters have been sent out. Those who fail to turn in applications before the deadline will not be ranked forward for possible funding. While many applications have been turned in, Froelich gave a warning about not submitting an application:

“I’d hate to have someone fall through the cracks because they didn’t get one or two forms filled out by May 30. You’ll be wanting to go as soon as things dry out and this is going to fall through the cracks, so take advantage of it now.”

The applications are for individuals in Warren, Henderson, and Knox counties.
