Ronald B. Starr, 92, of Galesburg, died at 12:44 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2019 in Hawthorne Inn.

He was born June 25, 1926, in Tokio, North Dakota, the son of Manuel W. and Gerda (Berg) Starr.  He married Dolores J. Tharp on March 14, 1948, in Galesburg.  She preceded him in death on September 29, 2018 after more than 70 years of marriage.

He is survived by three children, Rhonda (Steven) Kistler of Galesburg, Douglas (Connie) Starr of Tremont, and Sandra (W. Scott) Smith of Galesburg; a daughter-in-law, Donna Starr of Bartonville; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two sisters, Shirley Klint of Sawyer, Michigan and Geraldine McVay of Galesburg.  In addition to his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Duff Starr and Stephen Starr; a grandson, Thomas Starr; three brothers; and two sisters.

Ron was the tool room foreman at Butler Manufacturing Company for 48 years, retiring in 1991.  His family originally moved to Galesburg in 1931.  They moved to Minneapolis from 1938 to 1943, at which time they returned to Galesburg.  He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1945. 

Ron was of Christian faith.  He served on the board of directors of the Butler Credit Union for 29 years.  He enjoyed bowling on his senior bowling league.

Ronald served in the United States Army during World War II.  He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.

Ron was a life-long die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.

Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 19, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  Funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
