Mr. Ronald James “Ronnie J” Ericson, 65, of Galesburg died at 2:27 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2019 surrounded by loved ones.

Ronald was born June 22, 1953 in Galesburg to Phil Morton and Gloria Jean (Bainter) Ericson. He married Ivy Jean Hall in August 1974. They later divorced but remained good friends.

He is survived by his daughter Tonya Jo Smith of Galesburg; Katrina Greer of Galesburg, whom he considered a stepdaughter; five brothers Eric Ericson of Galesburg, Benjamin Ericson of Nebraska, Scott Ericson of Nebraska, Karl Ericson of Georgia and Joshua Ericson of Nebraska; nine sisters Gail (Holman) Jones of Hamlin, Texas; Kimberly (Richard) Taylor of Maquon, Illinois; Lisa (Scott) Nemeth of Galesburg; Sheryl (Jr.) Hensley of Chucky, Tennessee; Teri (Tom) Williams of Galesburg; Pamela (Gary) Easley of Galesburg; Clarise (Harold) Fenner of Burlington, Iowa; Krista (Freddie) Jones of Georgia; and Sara Heitzman-Harris of Colorado. Also surviving are his four grandchildren Logan, Emily, Jadynn, and Nico, two step grandchildren, and one great grandchild on the way; numerous nieces, nephews, and his beloved pup Bella.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather William Smith, and two brothers Phillip Smith and Anthony Ericson.

Ronald attended Galesburg High School. He worked as a roofer for JB & D before doing freelance roofing and siding jobs. Ronald was a member of Northwoods Church, enjoyed playing guitar, gardening, playing pool, and working on computer software. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Ronald will be remembered as being full of heart, always ready to help others and for his playful spirit.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be scheduled for July 2019. Memorials may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
