Victor L. Twomey, 92, of Roseville, IL, Passed away at 3:35 pm, Wednesday, March 27, 2019.
Victor was born February 28, 1927 in Warren County, Illinois, the son of Victor and Lucile (McElroy) Twomey. He was raised and educated in Warren County, graduating from Roseville High School in 1945, and later attended the University of Illinois where he was a member of the All American Cross Country team. He was honored as a Big 10 Champion in 1946.
Victor was a Corporal serving with the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1957.
He married Lucille (Lang) in Monmouth, Illinois on November 26, 1955. She preceded him in death on February 16, 2007. They shared a love for more than 50 years.
Victor was a partner in Twomey Company, the family business where his lifelong dedication, sense of fairness, and respect for his customers was paramount. His connection to the fields and grains of his homestead gave him immense pleasure.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Monmouth, the Monmouth Country Club, Lions Club, the Monmouth American Legion Post #136, and Galesburg Road Runners. Running was a lifelong passion. He continued his love of competitive long distance running well into his 70’s.
He was loved for his mischievous sense of humor and never met a stranger. Vic was a generous man who enjoyed sharing a good glass of wine with friends and family.
Family include his daughters, Ellen Gerl of Lahaina, HI, Elaine (Chris) Segura of Stoughton, Wi., Martha (Keith) Wilson of West Olive, Mi.; his grandchildren, Ryan Gerl, Emily Bonnie, Andrew Gerl, Claire Cheslak, Emma Segura, and Charlotte Segura; six great grandchildren; his brother John Twomey of Monmouth; sister in law, Melba Twomey of Roseville, IL and brother in law, Charles Kirkpatrick of Roseville, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sisters Norma Kirkpatrick and Mary Jane Twomey, his brother Patrick Twomey, and son-in-law Bob Gerl.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 – 1:30 pm Saturday, May 25, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Cremation has been accorded In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Peoria Affiliate Family Home.
