Vincent Irvin “Vince” Poe, 93, of Galesburg, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville, IL.
Vince was born December 11, 1925 in Des Moines County, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Bessie Pearl (Teter) Poe. He married Shirley June Little on June 6, 1948 in Galesburg, she survives. Vince is also survived by one son, Jerry (Lori) Poe of Windsor, CO and one daughter, Christie (John) Hester of Orland Park; and four grandchildren, Aaron (Anastasiya) Poe of Boston, MA, Nathan (Jennifer) Poe of Vancouver, WA, Cameron Hester and Annie Hester, both of Orland Park, IL. Vince was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
Vince served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He worked as a letter carrier at USPS, retiring in 1987. He was a member of East Main Street United Church of Christ, as well as the Mohammed Shriner’s. Vince enjoyed golfing, traveling, cars, big band music, dancing, and the Chicago Bears. One of his favorite memories was meeting Mike Ditka, former Chicago Bears coach at training camp in Platteville, WI>.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg.
