Helen L. Sims, 92, of North Henderson, IL, passed away at 11:11 am, Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Seminary Manor, Galesburg.
She was born on December 21, 1926 in Monmouth, IL the daughter of Harry and Evalyn (Nelson) Carlson. Helen was raised and educated in the Norwood area and graduated from Alexis High School in 1944.
Helen married Donald “Raymond” Sims at the First Presbyterian Church in Davenport, IA on February 14, 1945; he preceded her in death on March 23, 2001.
Helen loved being a farm wife; she enjoyed living on and being involved with the family farm. She was a lifelong member of the Alexis Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school, served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and served on various committees. Helen was a member of Aledo DAR Chapter serving as Past Regent, Past President of the North Henderson-Alexis PTA, an election judge, Past President of the Presbyterian Woman’s Association, , served on the Alexis- St. Mary’s Medical Board, and served on the Blue Cross/Blue Shield board in Mercer County.
Surviving Helen is her children, Gary (Nancy) Sims of Alexis, IL, Brenda (David) Fell of Galesburg, IL, Gene (Patty) Sims of Alexis; ten grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren with one on the way; daughter-in-law, Paula Sims of Alexis, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Grace and Mary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Larry Sims, one sister Janet Anderson, and one brother, John Carlson.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Alexis Presbyterian Church, Alexis, IL. Interment will be in Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm Monday, June 17, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Memorials can be made to the Alexis Presbyterian Church, Knox Co.
