The Monmouth Post 136 Legion baseball team defeated Farmington 5-4 last night at Sunny Lane Field in Monmouth. All but one run in the game was scored in the first two innings. It was Farmington that jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their first at bat. Four of the first five batters reached base against Monmouth starter Nolan Leffler. Leffler would settle down and only allow one more run and no hits in the final three innings of his four innings of work. Monmouth answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Andrew Thomas brought Brannock McVey home with an rbi ground out and Nick Corman drove two more home with a double to center. Post 136 took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd with a 2-run double by Jake Brooks that brought Dyhlan Hepner and Drew Brown home. Farmington narrowed the deficit to 5-4 with a solo run in the top of the 4th but Corman pitched two innings of hit-less relief of Leffler and Thomas came on to get the save in the 7th, stranding the tying run on second base. No rest for Monmouth as they hit the road tonight for a game against Galesburg at Sundberg Field on the Galesburg High School campus at 5:30. The back end of a 3-games in 3-night’s streak takes place tomorrow night against East Moline Post 227 at United Township High School. Monmouth will host Canton Post 16 on Friday night at Sunny Lane Field at 5:30 and Abingdon on Sunday for a double header at Sunny Lane field. The first pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00.
