William J. “Bill” Pieper, 74 of Monmouth, IL, passed away at 8:20 am, Monday, June 24, 2019 at his home.

He was born October 6, 1944 in Ft. Madison, IA, the son of William Frederick and Mary (Strong) Pieper.  He was raised and educated in Dallas City, IL, graduating from Dallas City High School in 1962.  He later graduated from Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO in 1966 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and Chemistry.  Bill went on to complete his Master’s Degree in Genetics from Drake University in Des Moines, IA in 1972.

Bill married SuzAnn Danielson in Biggsville, IL on April 14, 1973 and she passed away on September 23, 2017.

Bill taught for 34 years at Monmouth High School before retiring in 2000.  While at Monmouth High School, Bill coached Freshman Basketball from 1970-1976 and Golf from 1971-1994 where his teams won 6 State Championships.  He cherished all the relationships with his students. After his retirement he continued to teach at Monmouth High School and Carl Sandburg College.  He was a member of the Monmouth Rotary Club and for several years, the Elks Club. 

Bill enjoyed golfing, playing cards, being a member of a gourmet club and cooking with friends.  He also enjoyed traveling to Arizona with SuzAnn. 

Survivors include his 3 sons, Scott (Kelly Schmidt) Pieper of Cedar Rapids, IA, Erik (Trudi) Pieper of Summerville, SC and Aaron (Courtney) Pieper of Lake St. Louis, MO; his grandchildren, Taylor Pieper, of Cedar falls, IA, Abby Pieper of Summerville, SC, Lucas Pieper and Jenner Pieper of Lake St. Louis, MO; his siblings, John (Teresa) Pieper of Dallas City, IL, Nancy (Fred Gida) Clampit of Ft. Madison, IA and TJ (George) Van Hagen of Burlington, IA; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Memorial services will be 11:00 am, Friday, June 28, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Interment will be in Biggsville Cemetery, Biggsville, IL.  Cremation has been accorded.  Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 Friday morning at the funeral home.  Memorials may be given to the Monmouth rotary Club or the Gibson Woods Jr. Golf Program.
