“Extremely” cheap methamphetamine has flooded Western Illinois from the South, leading to increased use in the region and making it harder for law enforcement to detect the drug.
The influx of methamphetamine, which Warren County Sheriff Martin Edwards says is a tenth of the cost of previous street prices, has led to mental health issues among inmates addicted to the drug.
Sheriff Edwards implores individuals addicted to the drug to seek help.
“I would just encourage young people to obviously don’t get involved in it in the first place, and if you are involved in it to get out of it if possible. I know it’s a hard habit to break.”
Sheriff Edwards says that the drug truly became prevalent in the 2000s.
