New Business District in Monmouth Officially Approved

Share

A motion to establish a business district in the West 11th, Highway 34 area of Monmouth was approved recently that will include a Love’s Travel Stop.

Three ordinances were approved during the latest city council meeting. The first ordinance was for Love’s to annex the property to the City, the second was to properly establish the West 11th, Highway 34 area as the business district, and the final ordinance was to impose a one per cent sale’s tax within the business district only.

City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher tells us where the revenue from the additional sales tax will go towards.

“The money collected by this business district one per cent tax will be used specifically to reimburse Love’s for the cost of extending the water and sewer utilities to the site, and for the reconstruction of the 11th Avenue roadway.”

Love’s plans to begin building in March of 2020.
