Ruth E. Hawk, age 96, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away surrounded by
her family on Friday, July 19, 2019 at 2:20 pm. Ruth was born on May 2,
1923 in Monmouth, Illinois and is the daughter of Julius and Sylvia
Landuyt Cokel. Ruth was raised in Monmouth where she attended Immaculate
Conception School and Monmouth High School. She was married to Clarence
E. Hawk on September 4, 1943 in the Rectory of Immaculate Conception
Church where she has been a long time parishioner. She was a member of
the Altar and Rosary Society and was active in the Knights of Columbus
Auxiliary for Bingo, fish frys, and other events. Ruth worked at
Monmouth Pottery, did laundry for many Monmouth College Students, and
took care of the Altar Linens of Immaculate Conception Church. She loved
to bake, especially pies. She was a member of the American Legion
Auxiliary, and served on the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She
enjoyed biking and walking around Monmouth. She was also known for
making Sunday morning breakfast for her family, friends, and whomever
stopped by. Her greatest love was for her family and grandchildern. Ruth
is survived by her sons, Michael D. (Deb) Hawk, Robert “Bob” (Sherri)
Hawk, and Thomas B. (Linda) Hawk all of Monmouth, Illinois and her
daughter, Chris (Tom) Hart of Kirkwood, Illinois and daughter in law
June Hawk of Chandler, Arizona. She is also survived by 17
grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren
as well as several nieces and newphews. She is preceded in her death by
her parents, husband Clarence, one son (Vic), and eight brothers and
sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday July 25, 2019 at
Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth, Illinois at 10:00 am. Her
family will recite the Rosary at 5:00 pm all are welcome, with
visitation to follow on Wednesday July 24, 2019 at Turnbull Funeral Home
in Monmouth, Illinois. Interment will be in the St.Mary’s Catholic
Cemetery. Memorial funds have been established for Immaculate Conception
