The Monmouth Police Department would like to thank Western Illinois Animal Rescue, Monmouth Small Animal Hospital, Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service, and the Monmouth Fire Department for their compassionate assistance and logistical support during today’s sensitive incident.

The Monmouth Police Department was contacted by several concerned parties regarding a large feline population in the residence at 318 W. 3rd Ave., Monmouth.  The information indicated an estimate in excess of 75 felines living within the residence.  This information also suggested that the living conditions inside the residence were detrimental to the health of the occupants.  With this information, the Monmouth Police Department obtained a warrant to enter the residence to inspect the conditions and to remove the cats.

The residents received health evaluations by on-scene medical personnel.  The animal occupants were safely transported to a secure location where they are currently undergoing observation and treatment by veterinary personnel.

This warrant was executed at approximately 8am at 318 W. 3rd Ave.  Further information will be released as it becomes available.

For press inquiries, please contact Chief Joe Switzer at the Monmouth Police Department, 734-8383.
