Dixon, IL– The Carl Sandburg College cross country teams opened their season with a triangular meet Saturday at Sauk Valley that also included Kishwaukee. The meet was timed but not scored.
On the men’s side, Sandburg had the top two finishers and three of the top four. Andrew Cation (Yates City, Ill./Farmington) won the 3-mile race with a time of 16 minutes, 53 seconds. Ryan Monson (Aledo, Ill./Mercer County) was runner-up in 17:33, and Dixon Kiptoo (Eldoret, Kenya/Kipsangui Boys) was fourth in 17:50.
Also posting top-10 times for the Chargers were Kevin White (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) in eighth at 18:39 and Gunner Goff (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville) in 10th at 19:34. Other finishers for Sandburg were Nathan Cutts (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) in 13th at 20:22, Andrew Hand (Woodhull, Ill./AlWood) in 14th at 21:18 and Preston Hook (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) in 17th at 26:51.
Sophomore Nancy Jebet (Eldoret, Kenya/Tulwo Girls) was second in the 2-mile women’s race with a time of 13:11. Making her Chargers debut, Anna Marino (West Burlington, Iowa/Notre Dame) was fourth in 13:30, and Caren Maiyo (Eldoret, Kenya) crossed in fifth place in 14:10.
Other finishers for Sandburg were Annadoria Ledbetter (Oneida, Ill./ROWVA) in eighth place at 17:15, Brooke Carlson (Knoxville, Ill./Knoxville) in ninth place at 17:40 and Annie Sholl (Carthage, Ill./Illini West) in 11th with a time of 20:14.
