Mr. Gerald E. “Sonny” Young, 89, of Knoxville died at 9:10 p.m., Sunday, August 25, 2019 at Knox County Nursing Home.
He was born June 19, 1930 in Galesburg to Cornelius and Hazel (Potter) Young.
Sonny is survived by his cousins Josephine (Adolphus J.) West, Deborah Morgan, Elouise Hall, Tannie Williams, Vera Randle, and Ladoris Johnson.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Sonny was raised and educated in Galesburg. He delivered newspapers for the Register Mail for many years. He was a member of Allen Chapel AME and in his free time he enjoyed playing Bingo.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, August 29, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services, Galesburg Chapel. Graveside services will follow Thursday at 2:00 p.m. in East Linwood Cemetery. Rev. James Hailey, III and Pastor Steve Humes, III will officiate.
