Joan Elaine Moul, age 88, died August 6, 2019 at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, IL. She was born July 23, 1931 to George Ancel Campbell and Novilla “June” Brown Campbell in York, Nebraska. She graduated from McCool Junction High School in 1949. Joan married Louis L Moul on November 3, 1949 and they had three children.
Joan lived most of her life in Fairmont as a stay-at-home mom, involved in PTA and never missing the school events of her children. She ‘kept books’ for the family trucking business, and with Louie later owned Parkside Mart in Fairmont. After moving to Colorado she worked at the Lone Tree Country Club in Littleton. She moved back to Nebraska to be near her mom, and in 2006 moved to Galesburg, IL to be near her daughter.
Joan’s lifelong passion was reading; she served on the board of the Fairmont Public Library for ten years. When she moved to an Assisted Living Home, she set up a library outside her apartment for other residents to be able to read her large-print books.
Joan enjoyed sports, hunting ‘coons with her dad, fishing, and pheasant hunting in the fall. She treasured being part of the bowling league with her close friends and many stories were told about the trips to the bowling tournaments. She loved watching baseball, golf and football – especially the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Surviving are daughter Leigh E. (Bob) Moberg of Galesburg, Illinois and son Louis L Moul, Jr. (Sheryl) of Longview, Washington, grandchildren Zaac (Chelsea) Moberg, Heather (Allen) Smith, Jeff (Molly) Trumble, Andrew Trumble, Ashley (Michael) Wagner, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, brother Kelly Campbell and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters Anna Belle Maxfield, Margaret Heironymus, Hellen Hager, Millie Conway, brother Don Campbell and daughter Susan D. Trumble.
Cremation rights have been accorded and a private interment for Louie and Joan will be held at Fairmont Cemetery at a later date.
