Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Aug. 22nd, 2019

High School

The United Red Storm boys and girls golf teams both picked up victories over Mid-County last night at Gibson Woods Golf Course in Monmouth. The United girls were led by meet medalist Clarie Carnes with a 47. She was joined in the scoring quartet by Paige McKeown’s 52, Gabby Neice’s 53 and Haley Marshall’s 54. The Red Storm boys defeated Mid-County in close one, 166-169. United’s Drew Brown was the meet medalist with a 1-over par 36. Evan Wynne pitched in with a 39. He was followed by Dyhlan Hepner’s 44 and Will Ornduff’s 47. United is now (2-0) on the season.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan junior high baseball team traveled to Avcom Park in Avon for a matchup with Abingdon-Avon. The trojans move to (2-1) on the season with a 9-5 victory. ICS jumped all over the Tornadoes with four, 1st inning runs and then gradually built the lead to 6-0 after three and a half innings. A-Town cut the deficit to 6-5 by the time the final inning rolled around. The Trojans offense kicked back into gear and they would put the game away with three, 7th inning runs. Nick Huston went 3-for-4 to lead ICS. Leo Mahoney, Ty Corsaro and Dakota Hawk also had two hits apiece as ICS out-hit A-Town 12-10. The Trojans host their annual baseball Jamboree this Saturday at the Maple City Field of Dreams in Monmouth. The Trojans will play Stark County at 9 a.m. and Quincy Catholic at 1 p.m. Other schools participating in the jamboree are A-Town, Brimfield and Ridgewood.
