Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Aug. 28, 2019

Volleyball

The West Central Heat started their season off with a three-set win over Galesburg Christian. The Heat get a 25-18, 23-25, 25-15 victory. No details were found for that one.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks beat East Peoria 25-21, 27-25. Lauren Livingston smashed five kills and Maddie Carlson handed out 16 assists. Brynn Atwell hustled her way to five digs. Galesburg swept the night, winning the freshman and sophomore contests as well.

After losing the first set of the season, the Knoxville Blue Bullets came back to beat Stark County 21-25, 25-14, 25-23. Hannah Jones led knoxville with 10 service points, 9 kills and 6 blocks. AJ Rask has 12 assists and 8 digs, Ellie Wight had 11 digs.

Kewanee beat Ridgewood and it was Sherrard over Galva in straight sets.

Soccer

A-Town fell behind perennial power Peoria Christian 6-0 at the half and would eventually lose 7-0 in Peoria.

The Galesburg Silver Streak soccer boys got their season off to a great start. Despite 16 offsides calls in the match, the Streaks began their campaign with a Western Big Six Conference match at Rock Island Alleman. Galesburg got goals from Jessie Rivera, Isaiah Mowen and Exauce Illelenzin (Ill-uh-len-zin) in a 3-2 win.

Golf

The Knoxville girls golf team fell to Mercer County 189-256. Kaci Luptak led Knoxville with a 51 and Madison Johnson scored a 61 as well for the Blue Bullets.

Junior High

West Central fell at home to Nauvoo-Colusa 8-2. Alex McGraw and Hayden Eisnicher had the lone hits for West Central.
