Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Aug. 30, 2019

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans got back in the win column last night against Knoxville at the Shoebox at Monmouth-Roseville High School. The Titans get a straight-set 25-19, 25-13 win over the Blue Bullets. Carly Gillen led Monmouth-Roseville with seven kills, five digs and six service points. Sully Huston also served for six points. Delaney Woodard led the team in assists with 14 and service aces with six. Monmouth-Roseville swept the night, winning the freshman and sophomore matches as well. The Titans are (2-1) on the season and will head to the Macomb Volleyball Classic on the campus of Western Illinois University on Saturday. They will start pool play at 8:00 tomorrow morning against Rock Island. Monmouth-Roseville will also play Payson-Seymour and Ridgewood before playing two crossover matches later in the day.

West Central fell to Orion 25-13, 25-5. West Central was led by Mady Reed’s two kills and six digs. Reagan Spence had a pair of blocks for the Heat as well.

Galesburg beat Canton 25-17, 25-22 to move to (2-0) on the year. Lauren Livingston had nine kills and five digs. Brynn Atwell led the Streaks with 11 digs. Maddie Carlson handed out 17 assists.

Elsewhere, West Prairie beat Havana 25-22, 25-15 and Macomb knocked off Jacksonville 25-15, 25-19.

Golf

The United Red Storm boys and girls each went undefeated in a four team match at Kewanee Dunes Golf Course. The Red Storm girls were led by co-medalists Paige McKeown and Claire Carnes’ 52’s. Emily Grodjesk shot a 55 and Haley Marshall and Addy Trego each scored a 62. The United boys went (3-0) over Princeville, Annawan/Wethersfield and Bureau Valley. The Red Storm shot a team score of 179 and were led by meet medalist Drew Brown with a 40. Dyhlan Hepner shot a 45 and Evan Wynne and Andrew Fuller also factored in the scoring with 47’s.

Junior High

The ICS Trojan junior high baseball team hosted West Central at the Field of Dreams in Monmouth. It was ICS’s 8th grade recognition night as well. The Trojans wasted no time getting a 14-1, five inning victory. ICS pushed across four runs in the 1st and 3rd innings and five runs in the 2nd. Jake Steele, Ty Corsaro and Zach Almaguer each had three hits. Steele scored four runs and Corsaro and Nick Huston knocked in three runs each. Corsaro also got the pitching win, going the first four innings, giving up two hits and one earned run with six strikeouts. Alex McGraw and Noah Lenahan had the only two hits for West Central.
