New Ordinance on Marijuana Dispensaries in Monmouth Coming Soon

Share

The City of Monmouth will be discussing whether marijuana dispensaries will be restricted or prohibited within city limits after the State of Illinois legalized marijuana in June.

If an ordinance that restricts or prohibits the dispensaries is passed, it will not restrict recreational, or medical, marijuana use.

Although the City of Monmouth will not prohibit recreational use, City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher says there will be some restrictions.

“Just like liquor there are certain restrictions in terms of age, operating vehicles, and that type of thing. There will still be those type of restrictions. You could not consume marijuana in public places. You can’t walk down the sidewalk, just like you can’t drink beer walking down the sidewalks.”

Legalized marijuana in Illinois will take effect January 1.
