The Western Big Six Conference is getting ready to start up this coming school year with some major changes. After 50 years of having six schools among the conference’s membership, the league will expand to eight with Geneseo and Sterling High Schools coming aboard for all sports beginning this fall. And even more changes have happened to the conference in the past few weeks. First, Galesburg Silver Streak boys basketball varsity head coach Mike Reynolds left the school after 11 seasons to take a similar position at Dekalb High School. Now, United Township is also looking for a new head coach of their varsity boys basketball team. According to qconline.com, Ryan Webber leaving the Panther basketball program to be an assistant coach at the college level, rumored to be with the Iowa Hawkeye men’s basketball program. The official destination for Webber can’t be revealed until paperwork clears that school and an official announcement made through the college. Webber, a 1997 Galesburg High School graduate, put together a 77-41 record in his four seasons coaching at UT. He also garnered a Big Six Conference basketball title and an Elite 8 run in 2016.
