The Buchanan Center for the Arts in Monmouth is buzzing with activity this month.

The first Buchanan Center for the Arts’ ‘Artist in Residence’ program is coming to a close.

The current ‘Artist in Residence’, Natalie Curtis, has been with the Buchanan Center since the official Open House on June 1st, 2019, and since has been involved in a variety of community events.

Such events include the inception of the newest mural between the Warren County Public Library and the Buchanan Center, various classes taught at the Jameson Center, and her latest installation, located inside the Buchanan Center on 64 Public Square in Monmouth.

Natalie Curtis will be hosting a ‘Gallery Talk’ at the Buchanan Center on Tuesday September 10th, and will talk about her experience with the “Artist in Residence” program in depth, while answering questions from the audience.

Kristyne Gilbert, Executive Director of the Buchanan Center, spoke about her experience with the program and with Natalie Curtis…

“We have not had really any glitches, knock on wood, for the first time running this program, so it has been a really great experience, and we are looking forward to not only receiving her feedback because we want to know what she thinks of the program, but also so that we can use that to build upon future programs.”

The Buchanan Center for the Arts in Monmouth is also hosting the Security Savings Bank 38th Annual Photography Show.

The show will be on display at the Buchanan Center from Tuesday, August 27th until Friday, October 11th, and will be hosting an Opening Reception ceremony on Friday, August 30th, from 5-7 pm, with awards presented at 6 pm.

There will be awards for multiple categories of photographs, with categories such as Agriculture, Nature, Faces, and Light and Shapes.

The ceremony and display are both open to the public, and attendance is free.

Kristyne Gilbert explains why even non-artists can enter art shows…

“Some folks, they have a hard time calling themselves artists, it just seems like a word that they really struggle with, because they think it has to be something like an Andy Warhol or Michelangelo, but art is the way you see the world, and it’s your view, and all of us have an artist within us. So I think folks will really enjoy what has been put together here in this collection.”
