The Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Experiences Asian Agriculture

Share

Anna Damos, Agriculture Education Coordinator at the Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau, got a unique chance to study Asian Agriculture this past summer while traveling to Thailand on an educational vacation.

While there, Damos noticed a lack of actual grocery stores, with the Thai people instead opting for farmers street markets.

Fresh fruit was a staple in most dishes, with mango, coconut, and dragon fruit being the most prevalent. Because of the longer growing season, Thailand boasts a wide variety of fruits for a large portion of the year.

While there, Damos observed rice-growing strategies and received hands-on experience while visiting local rice farmers. Damos went on to talk about her experiences with these farms…

“I got to see rice growing, not only terraced, more in the mountain area, but also some of the bigger farms. I got the chance to walk the mud path in between the paddies, and help a little bit with a smaller village area. They were out, kind of transplanting and replanting. That was a really cool experience, just because I have no experience with rice.”
