Biggsville’s West Central High School football coach, Jason Kirby, wants to move forward from the past, and bring his team to success this season.
Coach Kirby’s biggest recent focus has been to change the culture of the students of West Central High School to a culture of believing in oneself as well as their team, and so far, he thinks things are moving in the right direction.
Last season was rough for the West Central, which Coach Kirby attributes to a lack of organization, both on the team’s end as well as his own. But, since last winter, things have changed, and the overall spirit of the team has been lifted.
One major change to the athletic department is the skill level of their underclassmen. Coach Kirby says that he has noticed a higher overall skill level in this year’s underclassmen, and looks forward to nurturing their skill in the years to come.
Coach Kirby has one piece of advice to his players for overcoming past mistakes…
“The past doesn’t define you, you just have to learn from it. It’s not who you are, you’re who you are. Make what you want to be out of that. And, you know, if our kids lived by that mantra, rather than ‘we’ve always been unsuccessful in this’, then they have a chance to win.”
With renewed optimism, Coach Kirby looks forward to improving the outlook and skill of his players this season.
