Elvie Santoyo, owner of Acapulco, a Mexican restaurant that has been open in Galesburg since 2006, says that the business is closing its doors.
The decision to close Acapulco came because of the uncertain future of the building shared by Acapulco and Northgate Lanes, and uncertainty was too much of a risk for the family to justify staying open.
However, according to Santoyo, plans to open a new business have been in the works, and hopefully by the end of the year, the family’s new business, La Cantinita, will be open.
La Cantinita is planned to be a full bar, specializing in specialty wines and import tequilas, while also offering a variety of appetizers and finger foods.
Elvie Santoyo goes on to talk more about the community that Acapulco has served for the last thirteen years…
“Without the support from the community and surrounding areas and all our loyal customers, Acapulco wouldn’t be what it is today. So with that, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has supported us, and on behalf of my husband and I, and the rest of our family, this is also a pretty bittersweet moment for us. We are sad to close this chapter of our lives.”
The restaurant closes on Saturday, September 21st, and the new business is scheduled to open sometime in late November, or early December.
