Mrs. Alice Mae Nelson, 73, of Galesburg, Illinois, formerly of Alexis, Illinois died 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at Marigold Rehab and Health Care Center, Galesburg.
She was born June 10, 1946 in Galesburg to Ira Earl and Goldie Mae (Sexton) Higgins. She married Donald Edward Nelson July 5, 1969 in Henderson Grove, Illinois. He survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Olga Mae Cunningham of Alexis and Patricia (and Jeff) Norton of Alexis, two brothers, Bill (and Mary) Higgins of Knoxville, Illinois and Raymond (and Kum) Higgins of Manhattan, Kansas, a sister, Susan Sallo-Higgins of Galesburg, four grandchildren, Joshua Nelson, Haley Norton, Tammy Sue Nelson, and Cody Norton, two step grandchildren, Adam Norton and Heidi Sottos, a great grandchild, Emmanual James Lou Nelson, six step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Alice graduated from Galesburg High School in 1965 and Carl Sandburg Nursing School in 1977. She worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and then a Licensed Practical Nurse for St. Mary’s Hospital and several nursing homes for 30 years. She retired in 2008. She attended Messiah Lutheran Church in Henderson Grove, Illinois.
Visitation will be 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2019 at the chapel. Rev. Scott Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Henderson Grove Cemetery.
