Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 18, 2019

Volleyball

Monmouth-Roseville took the half hour trip south to Macomb for another battle with the Bombers. It was the Bombers taking this round, 25-16, 25-15. Avery Rexroat served for four aces and handed out 24 assists for Macomb. Maggie Vallillo had digs and Kennedy Adair and Tatumn Lantz each had eight kills for the Bombers.

The West Central Heat had no trouble with West Hancock, 25-17, 25-14. Megan Schaley and Mady Reed had six kills apiece. Schaley also totaled 14 digs. Sadie Lenz dished out 18 assists for the Heat, who are now (5-4).

Knoxville fell to (3-3) after their 25-13, 24-26, 25-22 loss to Mercer County in a non-conference match in Aledo.

The Galesburg Silver Streak volleyball team lost to Quincy in three sets, 25-18, 20-25, 25-19. Lauren Livingston smashed ten kills and Maddie Carlson garnered 25 assists and four digs for Galesburg, now (6-8) overall and (1-5) in the Big Six with the loss.

Also in the Western Big Six Conference last night, newcomer to the league, Geneseo ended Moline’s 25 match winning streak with a 25-20, 24-26, 25-18 victory.

Golf

United won both of their matches against Monmouth-Roseville and Knoxville at Gibson Woods in Monmouth. United carded a team total of 174, besting Knoxville’s 181 and Monmouth-Roseville’s 193. That improves United’s record in dual matches to (13-2) for the season. United’s Drew Brown and Monmouth-Roseville’s Reese Kane tied for meet medalist honors with 41. Also scoring for United was Dyhlan Hepner with a 42, Evan Wynne scored a 44 and Will Ornduff had a 47. Rounding out the scoring for Monmouth-Roseville was Tyler Sells with a 50 and Blake Cunningham and John Juszczyk with matching 51’s.

Soccer

The A-Town Tornado soccer team shutout Peoria Manual 7-0. Tylor Miller had four goals for the Tornadoes. Ricky Torres, Ethan Haywood and Tyler Carlson-Juhl also scored for Abingdon-Avon. Dylan Klingler earned the shutout in goal for A-Town.

The Galesburg Silver Streaks lost to Quincy 6-0 and are now (7-4) for the season.

Junior High

The Knoxville Blue Bullet football team beat Sherrard 18-6 in Knoxville. Mason Jackson rushed for two touchdowns and Nolan McClay added one as well for the Blue Bullets.

The Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade football team played a road game at Orion last night. The Titans fall 44-6. The lone touchdown for Monmouth-Roseville came on a long run by Rhett Willett.

The West Central Heat junior high girls basketball team swept Nauvoo-Colusa with the 7th grade winning 14-10 and the 8th grade getting a 37-10 victory.
